you know how it is: sometimes there is your life, and suddenly you come across a song that fits it. then again, sometimes there is a song you come to like or dislike, and after a while you find out that your life has changed to fit the song.
for this phase of my life, there are some songs that became especially important to me. became my soundtrack.
amy macdonald, “mr. rock’n'roll” – I knew this song weeks before I met Esme. I downloaded it from iTunes, had it on my mobile phone. just love the voice, the tune. didn’t listen much to the lyrics at first. how could I have known that amy would sing about me and esme?
a fine frenzy, “almost lover” – phantastic voice, great music, especially in the piano edit. if you are deeply and hopelessly in love, this is your song. also had it on my phone before esme. don’t know how many times I listened to it during our first weeks. and still do.
eminem vs. nena, “nur getraeumt” – if there is something that gets me going through these hours of darkness, it is this mix. angry meets romance – luv it. pushy. great lines: “Look, if you had, one shot, or one opportunity / To seize everything you ever wanted-One moment / Would you capture it, or just let it slip?”
tindersticks, “another night in” – basically, I had to look up the lyrics to understand those guys. but it’s worth it. so much sadness in the voice. easy to relate to that.
beirut, “nantes” – interesting song, very beautiful. unfamiliar voice. worth getting into it.
leo sayer, “you make me feel like dancing” – one from the make-my-day-fraction. just plain happy vibes. goes well with eminem/nena.
nina simone, “wild is the wind” – sad, sad. and deeply romantic. I just love to listen to nina’s voice with eyes closed.
laura nyro, “gonna take a miracle” – never came across this singer, which is a shame. a good voice, good lyrics – if you are in the right mood, listen to laura.
sade, “king of sorrow” - “smooth operator” was one of my favorites back in the, got to admit it, 80s. 1984, to be exact. man, I’m old. I don’t remember “king of sorrow”, but I liked it at once when I heard it recently.

ahh, Nina Simone……one of my favourites is “Do I move you? ….when I touch you, do you quiver?…”
Have as yet to find the man who will understand…
